An Update And Hiatus

Dear Friends of The Luke Pier Foundation,

Due to the February 2010 death of our son and brother, The Luke Pier Foundation will continue to take a hiatus for several more months. That being said, we wanted to be sure to give you an exciting update on Luke!

Luke is currently recovering from a successful chest surgery in July. Luke and his parents traveled to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Houston, Texas and stayed there for 10 days. The surgeon removed damaged cartilage, realigned Luke's sternum and placed two plates in his chest. Luke was not allowed to fly for six weeks, so the decision was made to rent a vehicle for the long drive home. We made it as comfortable as possible for Luke, and he never complained. To make the trip less traumatic on Luke, we stopped at two hotels to let him rest in a bed. Luke handled this surgery and travel amazingly well – we are so proud of his positive attitude and ambition during such a painful recovery.

At Luke’s latest checkup, the doctor discovered that Luke had broken one of the plates in his chest. The doctor said he has never seen this type of plate break before and that Luke is truly unique. It was decided that Luke will see the surgeon again in March 2011 to discuss removal of the plates. The estimated time for removal is the end of summer 2011.

Luke and we at The Luke Pier Foundation are truly grateful for your prayers during this incredibly sad time for us. Thank you for supporting us during this hiatus. We hope to update you again later this year.

Sincerely,

Extremely Proud Family of
